Say yes to Winnipeg.
We are very excited to have launched our Yes! Winnipeg team. We have assembled a dedicated nine-member team of Business Development Professionals, and support staff, to mobilize a collaborative community effort to attract new companies to our city, assist existing Winnipeg companies to expand, and help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into commercial reality. Our goal is to assist in the creation of over 4,200 new jobs by 2016. In order to get started, we needed to secure the necessary operation funds.
Our campaign appeals to businesses who wish to invest in the betterment of Winnipeg for this generation and future ones, as well as those who will anticipate a "return on their investment" since the positive effects from this initiative will ripple across virtually all sectors of our local economy. By assisting in the creation of so many new job opportunities Yes! Winnipeg will help to make it more attractive for our young people to remain here after they complete their education, and attract new residents from other parts of Canada and around the world. And many firms will choose to invest to become a member of a very desirable local network.
We are very pleased to report that our Investment Campaign has been successful. To date more than 110 private sector firms have collectively pledged over $4.5 million over five years, in addition to over $1.8 million from public sector organizations and governments.
